Nope! I bring a full set of tiles, racks, and the current NMJL card to every lesson. If you do have your own set, I'm happy to use yours.
Absolutely. Most of my students have never played before. I start from scratch and go at whatever pace works for you.
American Mahjong uses the NMJL card (updated every year), has different rules for trading tiles (the Charleston), and uses jokers. It's the style most commonly played in neighborhoods, clubs, and community centers in the U.S.
A full table is 4 players, which is ideal. But I can teach groups of 2–4 comfortably. For larger gatherings, contact me about a custom event.
Yes! I teach in-home throughout Steiner Ranch, Lakeway, River Place, and West Austin. All you need is a table and chairs.
Most beginners are playing real hands by the end of their first session. Two to three sessions is usually enough to feel confident playing on your own.
